Elephant calf rescued, reunited with mother & herd

An elephant calf was rescued from a ditch near Hanuman mandir, near Jiajuri, Chapanala, Nagaon on 14th November by a team led by Dulu Bora of Green Guard Nature Organization. It was herded to the forest near its place of rescue in the presence of forest staff and responding to calls made by the calf, the mother, along with a herd of 30 appeared at the scene. However the calf refused to respond to the calls of its mother, perhaps confused by the sounds made by the crowd on the other side. It kept walking back to Dulu, who also had to keep a safe distance from the wild herd. Other members of Green Guard Nature Organization enforced silence among the crowd.

After much cajoling, the calf was finally reunited with the mother.
