Street Plays for Greater Adjutant Conservation Awareness

Two of the leading wildlife environment NGOs of Assam, Aaranyak and Green Guard Nature Organization, jointly organized 'street plays' at several places in Morigaon and Nagaon on 26th of May, 2013 to promote conservation awareness of the Globally Threatened Greater Adjutant Stork. Locally known as Hargila, the world's rarest stork with a global population of less then 1000 has major breeding colonies at the 2 central Assam towns. The play 'Adhikar', scripted by Purnima Devi Barman and staged at Natun Bazar, Morigaon Syndicate, Lakhinagar Chariali & Senchowa at Nagaon and Chariali and Rajagaon (2 places) at Morigaon. The success of the programme can be gauged by the engrossment of the varied audience at the different spots and their enthusiastic endorsement of the call for 'Hargila' conservation by signing the banner placed for the purpose.
