Tree Plantation to mark Bon Mahotsav 2012

A Tree Plantation programme was undertaken to mark the ongoing Bon Mahotsav Week (1st to 7th July, 2012) by Green Guard Nature Organization in association with lcal communities and the Forest Department at Hodhodi, Lunsung, near Chapanala, Nagaon, Assam. Nearly 1000 saplings of non-timber, local varieties of seed bearing and fruit bearing trees like Silikha, Kothal, Omora, Jamuk, Outenga, Amlakhi, etc., that are more useful to wildlife were planted. The area of plantation is an area close to the species rich Swang RF which has been left barren by the practice of jhum or shifting cultivation in these areas. There are large swathes of such abandoned cropfields in the Karbi foothills which can be planted with non-timber trees to provide fodder for the abundant biodiversity.
